Strasbourg, World Bridge Capital in June 2023
It’s official! The news came on Monday 3 October. The French city of Strasbourg will host the 10th European Transnational Championships in co-operation with the French Bridge Federation and the European Bridge League. Over 15,000 bridge players from all around the globe are expected to cross swords and try to reach the top of the world standings, or simply enjoy participating in an event open to all, from 3 to 17 June 2023. The venue will be the Parc des Expositions of Strasbourg.
An event open to all
Beyond competitions covering all age categories (pupils, U16s, U21s up to Seniors), many activities will be proposed to the general public to make this event a big celebration of bridge. Free introductions, tournaments in cafés and restaurants, demos in schools… The whole Eurometropole of Strasbourg will vibrate to the rhythm of the king of card games during the fortnight.
A mix of cultures and levels
The very principle of the event – an Open and Team transnational competition – promises great diversity. American, Italian, English, French, Dutch, Indonesian… Bridge players of different nationalities will be able to play in the same team. A Bridge Champions League of a sort!
And since it is an Open competition, all WBF members will be allowed to play, whatever their level! Champions from local clubs will play in the same championships as world superstars. One can dream of outstanding performances by amateurs in David and Goliath-type matches.
Funbridge in the front line
Funbridge is a historical partner of the French Bridge Federation and therefore welcomes the trust shown to the FFB for organising this great event. Note that Strasbourg 2023 will also host the final of the U15 pupils and U18s French Championships, the qualifying stage of which has been taking place on Funbridge for two years now.
So, you can count on us to be at the forefront of this event and allow you to experience the highlights of the competition as if you were there. But maybe you will be part of it? Tell us in the Comments section of this article!
