Sitting in South, what do you bid in response to your partner’s double?
Tom Drijver’s best bids

This bid shows both majors and indicates a plan to bid RKC (Roman Key Card) after partner’s response. It keeps all options open for slam or even a grand slam.
20/20

While this bid is very safe, it seems too timid. It will likely become the final contract, but you are missing a great opportunity to bid higher and potentially make a slam.

This is a good bid to ask partner if they have extras, but it can be unclear for partner when to bid 6 hearts. The grand slam will likely not be reached if partner has a good hand.
10/20

This bid is a waste of a great major suit fit and won’t be rewarded.

So, in total bidding:

3 diamonds – double – pass – 4 diamonds – pass – 4 spades – pass – 4 NT – pass – 5 diamonds (0/3) – 5 NT (asking for specific kings and a grand slam try) – pass – 6 hearts (king of hearts) – pass – 7 spades. With all key cards and the king of hearts, this hand is well-suited for taking 13 tricks.

Why not 7 NT
If spades break 3-2 and hearts 4-1, there is still 13 tricks in 7 spades.
Ik kan de masterclass niet openen en heb ook alles in het Engels
Ik ook niet? Ik zie de masterclass niet eens.
I would say 4 Hearts to show him I have a strong hand with Hearts.
It is up to him to ask me for Aces or go to a slam
unstead 4D – as Michael cue bid, direct 4NT will do same job
I would bid Cuebid= 4 diamonds, giving my strength and the possession of majors
Cue if promises 5/5 in major suits. There are only 4 here. Risky if partner has 3 of the suit and takes it forward?
I am sure this is a stupid question, but what is the bid 3SA? It gets 0 points…I am assuming No Trump, but I would still like to know the SA abbreviation ….thanks!
Yes, it is French for 3NT. I think, if you scroll down to the bottom of this web page, you may choose english instead of french as language.
