When is 4 clubs the best choice?

• When 10 tricks are available it’s a great bid. ( +130 vs -140 )
• When 8 or 9 tricks are available its good when 3 hearts makes. (-50/-100 vs -140
• When it gets doubled its still fine when getting 9 or more tricks and 3 hearts makes. (-100 vs -140)

When is pass the best choice?

• When both contracts are set to go down. (-50/-100 vs +50/+100 )
• When we go down 3 or 2 when doubled ( -150/-300 vs +50/-140 )

In contested actions vulnerability plays a large role. Here we were not vulnerable. Also my partner doesn’t know I have got 6 clubs instead for only 5 and with my distribution (4-2-1-6)

I much more like to decide myself what will be trumps. Therefore, I decided to bid 4 clubs.

Against 4 clubs west led a diamond and 4 clubs was a piece of cake with the K of clubs rightsided. Loosing only 3 spades tricks for +130 and a score of 72%. Defending 3H would result in 3H – 1 (+50) for a score of 40%.
