Ambassadors' tournament: Tom Drijver

For the first time in the history of Funbridge, five professional bridge players known as the “Funbridge Ambassadors” will be joining you in the Ambassadors’ tournament from 22 to 30 May 2021!

How did you get into bridge?

My father taught me when I was 10 years old. I’ve played a lot with my brother Bas, especially in the Juniors category, and we’ve enjoyed representing the Dutch Junior team. The Channel Trophy was one of the most pleasant tournaments we took part in. 

What’s your national ranking?

I don’t participate in competitions anymore. Now I mostly teach bridge and play some online tournaments with friends.

What’s your playing record?

Multiple Dutch champion in the Youth category. And I finished second at the European Championships in Vienna. Each time with my brother Bas.

What’s your best bridge memory?

The best thing is to teach bridge to kids. That is what I enjoy the most. Also, a nice memory is when we played a tournament together, with the whole Drijver family. I was the most popular partner because my brothers were too competitive 😉 Bob refused to play with Bas, so I did. 

Which achievement are you most proud of?

Second place at European Championships.

Setting up bridge lessons in a week for the Dutch bridge federation to make bridge popular among young people.

What’s your favourite game mode on Funbridge?

One-to-one challenges. It is quite exciting to get challenged by Jérôme Rombaut.

Every month Tom Drijver will invite you to pit yourself against him in a special Funbridge Points tournament. And since good news never comes alone, if you score higher than the champion, you’ll get free Diamonds!

How to track the Tom Drijver progress? 

1. Follow Tom Drijver using your Funbridge account 

  • Click “Friends” on the homescreen 
  • Click “Search”
  • Type in the ambassador’s username: 
    DrijverBridge
  • Click on his Funbridge profile to access it
  • Once you are in the ambassador’s profile, click “Follow” 🔍

2. Filter the tournament rankings

In the general rankings of the tournament, select the filter “Friends” to display your friends and Tom Drijver you are following only. This will allow you to see how you compare with the champion at any time.
