Zach answers our questions

At what age did you start playing bridge? What inspired you to start?

I started around 8 or 9 – I grew up in a bridge family and learned basically through the senses. I never took any classes or lessons or books. My moms local game needed a fill
In so they taught me the rules and the rest was history

What is your best bridge memory?

My best memory is probably winning my first national title with my brother when I was 17. We had one of the most dominant second days I’ve ever seen. Averaged about 66 percent in 52 boards! NABC+ Fast Pairs in 2014.

What’s your bridge routine?

I don’t really have any bridge routine per se. I am a big advocate of doing some sort of exercise during long bridge tournaments (I try for every other day).

Apart from your involvement in bridge, both from a professional and personal perspective, what other pursuits fill your days??

Outside of tournaments I teach online and play a lot of bridge with students online (coaching).
I like to lift and be a bit active to offset all the eating and sitting. I am in the Learning process of tennis and golf and am by the nature of my profession, a big travel enthusiast. Oh and I play lots of Barbu online 😊.

Extra tip from the expert:

The extra advice from the expert: learning to count in bridge is the key to success. The points, the shape, the honor placement. Bridge without counting is gin without tonic 😉.
