After the 1&#x2660; overcall and my partner&#8217;s double, I bid 1NT. Now the question arises: what should I do next after 2&#x2660; and 3&#x2660;?<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"432\" height=\"474\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-366.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-104349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-366.png 432w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-366-273x300.png 273w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 432px) 100vw, 432px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The interesting aspect of my 1NT bid is that I haven\u2019t shown a spade stopper yet. I typically bid 1NT with any balanced 11-14 hand that lacks four hearts. The logical conclusion is that partner&#8217;s bid of 3&#x2660; is asking for a spade stopper, so I bid 3NT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>West led the &#x2660;5.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"452\" height=\"528\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-367.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-104350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-367.png 452w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-367-257x300.png 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 452px) 100vw, 452px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-f50e2f2\" data-block-id=\"f50e2f2\"><style>.stk-f50e2f2 {height:30px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Let\u2019s count the tricks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Guaranteed tricks:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2 spade tricks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 diamond tricks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That gives a total of 4 tricks so far. <strong>Potential tricks to develop:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 or 2 diamond tricks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 heart tricks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 or 3 club tricks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With several possibilities to explore, it\u2019s time to devise a plan. East won with the queen, but based on the bidding, I knew that East had no spades left. East returned a heart to West\u2019s ace, and West played back another heart to East, who returned a third heart to the dummy.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"560\" height=\"652\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-369.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-104352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-369.png 560w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-369-258x300.png 258w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Now I can make up my mind: West has 5 spades left and probably the ace of clubs. So, I played a diamond to my 10 and a small club towards the queen. West had 5 remaining spades along with the &#x2663;A.
