Luck was on my side this time and I managed to score over 75%. However, the latter option seemed <strong>a little extreme<\/strong> to me because <strong>as trumps, diamonds could turn out to be superior to hearts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curiously, the opponents didn&#8217;t enter the bidding, <strong>which is often a sign of misfit<\/strong> when you don&#8217;t have a lot of values in your line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-bde60aa\" data-block-id=\"bde60aa\"><style>.stk-bde60aa {height:30px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-image stk-block-image stk-block stk-267972c\" data-block-id=\"267972c\"><style>.stk-267972c .stk-img-wrapper{width:51% !important;height:350px !important;}@media screen and (max-width:689px){.stk-267972c .stk-img-wrapper{width:100% !important;height:224px !important;}}<\/style><figure><span class=\"stk-img-wrapper stk-image--shape-stretch\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"stk-img wp-image-106439\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-bid-EN.png\" width=\"1000\" height=\"742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-bid-EN.png 1000w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-bid-EN-300x223.png 300w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-bid-EN-768x570.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/span><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, it seemed likely that my partner had a spade-club two-suiter and that the situation would turn sour if I continued to bid. There is a rule in this kind of situation: &#8220;You don&#8217;t improve the part-score&#8221;. In other words, I had hope for game if I kept bidding. <strong>Although I only had 11 points, game in a red suit was still possible, especially since it seemed that Partner had bad spades as he didn&#8217;t open with a pre-empt.<\/strong> For example, he could have &#x2660;Q98654 &#x2665;A2 &#x2666;J2 &#x2663;J86 and I would be the favourite to make game in hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I intended to say 3&#x2666;, showing a mid-range hand and a fifth diamond. Unfortunately, Argine understood it to be a spade fit with strength in diamonds and I was forced to pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-0b3f50f\" data-block-id=\"0b3f50f\"><style>.stk-0b3f50f {height:30px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-image stk-block-image stk-block stk-5ba1207\" data-block-id=\"5ba1207\"><style>.stk-5ba1207 .stk-img-wrapper{width:53% !important;height:400px !important;}@media screen and (max-width:689px){.stk-5ba1207 .stk-img-wrapper{width:100% !important;height:295px !important;}}<\/style><figure><span class=\"stk-img-wrapper stk-image--shape-stretch\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"stk-img wp-image-106436\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-Diag-1-EN.png\" width=\"1158\" height=\"1098\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-Diag-1-EN.png 1158w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-Diag-1-EN-300x284.png 300w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-Diag-1-EN-1024x971.png 1024w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-Diag-1-EN-768x728.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1158px) 100vw, 1158px\" \/><\/span><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end, I played a slightly ridiculous contract knowing that 5&#x2666; was a very reasonable game and that even 6&#x2666; made on spades 3-3. <strong>Nevertheless, I did very well (80%) because 3&#x2666; was pushing our side off the road, not 5&#x2666;!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-ddcce35\" data-block-id=\"ddcce35\"><style>.stk-ddcce35 {height:50px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deal 7: In slam zone?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On this deal, I saw a fairly powerful hand opposite my partner&#8217;s 1&#x2665; opening and my RHO overcalled with 2&#x2663;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-image stk-block-image stk-block stk-0e37ef2\" data-block-id=\"0e37ef2\"><style>.stk-0e37ef2 .stk-img-wrapper{width:74% !important;height:400px !important;}@media screen and (max-width:689px){.stk-0e37ef2 .stk-img-wrapper{width:100% !important;height:214px !important;}}<\/style><figure><span class=\"stk-img-wrapper stk-image--shape-stretch\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"stk-img wp-image-106410\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-HB-2-EN.png\" width=\"1860\" height=\"1096\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-HB-2-EN.png 1860w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-HB-2-EN-300x177.png 300w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-HB-2-EN-1024x603.png 1024w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-HB-2-EN-768x453.png 768w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Luc-jan-HB-2-EN-1536x905.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1860px) 100vw, 1860px\" \/><\/span><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I had two options here: show support to my partner directly or start by showing the spades. Generally speaking, it is better to start by showing your fit in the majors in a competitive auction as this greatly simplifies the sequences afterwards. <strong>However, this hand is an exception. <\/strong>This is only an 8-card fit of poor quality, and <strong>spades could be a much better trump suit<\/strong>. For example, opposite &#x2660;Q32 &#x2665;A7642 &#x2666;K8 &#x2663;AK9, 6&#x2660; makes, not 6&#x2665;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-columns stk-block-columns stk-block stk-0f71084\" data-block-id=\"0f71084\"><div class=\"stk-row stk-inner-blocks stk-block-content stk-content-align stk-0f71084-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-column stk-block-column stk-column stk-block stk-fe4b6b4\" data-v=\"4\" data-block-id=\"fe4b6b4\"><div class=\"stk-column-wrapper stk-block-column__content stk-container stk-fe4b6b4-container stk--no-background stk--no-padding\"><div class=\"stk-block-content stk-inner-blocks stk-fe4b6b4-inner-blocks\">\n<p>Later I was able to support my partner in hearts and he decided to slow down the sequence with 4&#x2665; after making a cuebid of 3&#x2663;. This cuebid did not necessarily promise values: indeed, he had no available bid if he had no length to show and no club stopper. <strong>This is called a<\/strong> <strong>weak cuebid<\/strong>. If my partner had no wasted points in clubs, I would be cold for slam if two key cards were not missing: <strong>my partner would hold either the king of diamonds or the queen of spades on top of AKQ of trumps to justify his opening bid. <\/strong>So I bid Blackwood and calmly reached the 6&#x2665; contract when my partner showed two key cards and the queen of trumps. My RHO bid hearts, so <strong>I knew that my partner had hearts and clubs<\/strong>.
