Passing (<strong><span style=\"color: #fe0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">2 points<\/span><\/strong>) would be pessimistic when you hold three Aces and a seven-card suit. The wisest thing is to repeat your suit at the two-level (2&#x2663;: <strong><span style=\"color: #fe0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">10 points<\/span><\/strong>) because you are a few HCP short for a jump rebid (3&#x2663;: <span style=\"color: #fe0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\"><strong>6 points<\/strong><\/span>). And again, each player bids their suit at the two-level and it\u2019s your turn again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-fc48271\" data-block-id=\"fc48271\"><style>.stk-fc48271 {height:10px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do you do now over 2&#x2660;?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Passing (<span style=\"color: #fe0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\"><strong>6 points<\/strong><\/span>) is possible because you have partially announced your hand. It is however reasonable to bid 3&#x2663; (<span style=\"color: #fe0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\"><strong>10 points<\/strong><\/span>) because you count seven tricks, even opposite a complete yarborough with only a singleton Club. Given that East has promised at least six cards when he repeated his suit, the 3 is a singleton and East has the remaining seven cards (<strong><span style=\"color: #fe0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">10 points<\/span><\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-efd49f0\" data-block-id=\"efd49f0\"><style>.stk-efd49f0 {height:10px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How many tricks are you missing to make your contract? Which additional trick(s) do you plan to get?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dummy doesn\u2019t bring you any direct winners. But your powerful hand allows you to count seven tricks, provided you lose only two Club tricks (if they split 3-2 or 4-1 with a stiff honor). This means you are missing two tricks (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">5 points<\/span><\/strong>), both of which you are looking for in dummy: the Diamond Queen (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\"><strong>5 points<\/strong><\/span>) hoping for the King to be onside (or singleton if East has it) and the Heart King (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\"><strong>5 points<\/strong><\/span>) after knocking out the Ace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-65c222e\" data-block-id=\"65c222e\"><style>.stk-65c222e {height:10px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What tricks could the defense get? Who is the dangerous opponent? What assumptions of necessity do you formulate?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La Palice would tell you: you won\u2019t take home nine tricks if the defense has already won five. However, the defense can potentially win a Spade trick, the Ace of Hearts, the King of Diamonds and two trumps (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">5 points<\/span><\/strong>). Leaving aside the rare case of the singleton King of Diamonds in East\u2019s hand, the only loser you can avoid conceding is the one in Spades: East is therefore the dangerous opponent (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">5 points<\/span><\/strong>). He must not get on lead, which leads you to the following assumptions of necessity: the Ace of Hearts must be to your left (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">5 points<\/span><\/strong>) and East must have only one (or no) honor in Clubs (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">5 points<\/span><\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-1ef8073\" data-block-id=\"1ef8073\"><style>.stk-1ef8073 {height:10px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do you play at trick two?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Playing a Spade (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">0 point<\/span><\/strong>) would be suicidal. Playing a trump (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">4 points<\/span><\/strong>) would allow East to get on lead if he has a doubleton honor. It is out of the question to play a Diamond (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">3 points<\/span><\/strong>) because West, who promised six cards in the suit, would be happy to give his partner a ruff. You have no other choice but to play a Heart (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">10 points<\/span><\/strong>). West jumps up with the Ace (East plays the 2) and switches to the King of Clubs, East following with the 4\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-47fd93c\" data-block-id=\"47fd93c\"><style>.stk-47fd93c {height:10px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do you do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You want to prevent East from getting in, which he could with a doubleton Jack if you won and played another Club. It is therefore necessary to hold up the Ace (<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">10 points<\/span><\/strong>). West continues with a small Club and East inserts the Jack. Now you go up with the Ace and play another Club. West wins with the Queen and switches to the Jack of Diamonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-47a0c24\" data-block-id=\"47a0c24\"><style>.stk-47a0c24 {height:10px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do you do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can try the Queen, being almost certain it will hold the trick because West most likely holds the King for his 2&#x2666; bid. You can then discard your two losers on dummy\u2019s high Hearts and make your contract with an overtrick. If, however, you want to protect yourself against the unlikely (but possible) case of East holding the stiff King, you can let this run to your Ace and then, when the King doesn\u2019t show up, play a Diamond towards the Queen. It is not easy to decide between these two lines of play: let\u2019s say that the first gives you <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">8 points<\/span><\/strong> as well as <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">2 bonus points<\/span><\/strong> for your pragmatism, while the second awards you <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">10 points<\/span><\/strong> for its purity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-ddb8b41\"
