Find out more about the first part of our champion\u2019s \u2018Corsica Raid Aventure\u2019 diary and read about his experience punctuated by emotions, encounters, risks and dangers\u2026<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>29 May 2019: THE DEPARTURE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I am about to make one of my dreams come true<\/strong> for my 45th birthday: the&nbsp;\u2018Corsica Raid Aventure\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/corsicaraid\/\">Facebook page<\/a>).<br> It is a long-distance trek involving several sports disciplines through Corsica (from the north to the south). Our adventure will start on 1 June in Saint-Florent and end on 6 June in Sagone, north of Ajaccio. We took the boat in Marseille yesterday evening. <br> We have already met other teams: Virginie from the Belgian team #53, and teams #07 and #13, both from Arras.&nbsp;<strong>It bodes well!<\/strong><br><br>We arrived in the port of Bastia at 7am this morning. He will <strong>manage transfers from one\nassistance point to the next <\/strong>with our camper van on the narrow roads of\nCorsica. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is also <strong>responsible\nfor our well-being<\/strong>: drinks, food, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Laurent<\/strong>: Paris, 52 years old. He is responsible for <strong>making space\nand tidying up<\/strong> our van as well as making sure our clothes are ready for\neach event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is our <strong>kayak&nbsp;specialist<\/strong>.He also has a light mountain\nbike, we can\u2019t wait to take advantage of it. Unfortunately, since a motorbike\naccident 30 years ago, he can\u2019t run anymore, which means his participation in\nthis trail event will be limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Etienne<\/strong>: S\u00e8vres, 46 years old. His missions during the competition:&nbsp;<strong>performance management, punctuality<\/strong>,\ndeparture sites of the events, event regulations.<br>\n<strong>Very fit<\/strong>&nbsp;for this 2019 edition, we can rely on him\nfor all the events and especially <strong>mountain\nrunning and biking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>J\u00e9r\u00f4me<\/strong>: 45 years old. He is <strong>responsible for communication with the competition organisers<\/strong> and the other teams. As a community manager, his task is to share photos of this adventure.&nbsp;<br> He has an average pace and no specific strength but he should be able to <strong>take part in most events<\/strong>. Besides <strong>enjoying the adventure<\/strong>, the aim of our team will be to <strong>try to see this project through to the end<\/strong>\u2026 What a challenge!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Last checks and chilling-out before it starts<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The big day is coming<\/strong>\u2026 (The&nbsp;\u2018Corsica Raid Aventure\u2019&nbsp;starts on Sunday at 8am.)<br> We arrived at Biguglia campsite near Saint-Florent on Friday.&nbsp;<br> <strong>We spent the day preparing and checking our equipments<\/strong>: mountain bikes, tents, wetsuits, required survival gear, <strong>stickers on our Funbridge van<\/strong>, first-aid kit, identification of our van and supplies, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>That was a busy and festive day:<\/strong> bathing in the sea (the temperature was just\nperfect: 21 Celsius degrees!), biking, light lunch at the restaurant, a walk on\nthe beach in the evening.<br>\nAll French and foreign teams arrived on Friday. Corsican ones will follow on\nSaturday morning. <br>\nSaturday was a\nbriefing day. We discovered\nthe <strong>maps,\nroad book and list of the events\u2026<\/strong> (It had already been said that a night\nbivouac was planned in the mountains. It&nbsp;included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Coasteering<\/li><li>Kayaking in Saint-Florent bay<\/li><li>Mountain running<\/li><li>Swimming in the sea (with backpacks)<\/li><li>Orienteering in the mountains<\/li><li>Mountain biking through the vineyards<\/li><li>Climbing&nbsp;<\/li><li>Abseiling<\/li><li>Mountain biking again<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I can\u2019t describe all these landscapes. But we decided to\ndrive the night before to wake up later, at 5.45am, the next day and drive the\nremaining 20 kilometers. <br>\n<br>\nBut when it was time to go, <strong>flat battery<\/strong>.\n(We had forgotten to turn off the sidelights\u2026)<br>\nLaurent did his\nbest to find a solution and tried to fix it. Etienne and I decided to <strong>cycle<\/strong> to get to the departure site but it was already too late for\nthe first mountain bike event.<br>\nThe organisers sent us a car to drive us to the departure area.<br>\n<br>\nMountain biking to reach the canyoning site, then waterfalls, abseiling, jumping,\netc. The water temperature was okay and the landscape was just extraordinary!<br>\n<br>\nMountain biking again with two <strong>very\ndemanding<\/strong> events (we fell several times). We wasted valuable time due to repeated <strong>punctures<\/strong>. <br>\n<br>\nWe were back at\nthe campsite at 8pm. We only had time to change, eat and have a shower. Then we\nhad to <strong>prepare our bags for the night <\/strong>(portable\nstove, tent, survival kit, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We didn\u2019t take our sleeping bags and any comfort items with us for the bivouac to make our backpacks lighter (it\u2019s all relative).<br> We also decided to leave the second departure site at midnight to make the journey easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-7 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/61849601_10157225210194513_1296679269799297024_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"3048\" data-link=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/corsica-raid-aventure-2019\/61849601_10157225210194513_1296679269799297024_n\/\" class=\"wp-image-3048\"\/><\/figure><\/li><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/62255063_10157225210294513_4122753860643061760_o-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Technical problems at the Corsica Raid Aventure\" data-id=\"3049\" data-link=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/corsica-raid-aventure-2019\/62255063_10157225210294513_4122753860643061760_o\/\" class=\"wp-image-3049\"\/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4 JUNE 2019: A DEMANDING TRAIL EVENT BUT BEAUTIFUL\nLANDSCAPES<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The atmosphere was very romantic. We switched\noff our headlamps to let the stars guide us! <br>\nThen we set up a tiny tent to bivouac just a few hours. <strong>The<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>temperature outside was quite cold: 10 Celsius\ndegrees<\/strong>.Perfect\nfor a trail event but chilly to sleep!<br>\n<br>\nWe woke up at 5.30am for a mass start at 6am. And here we go! 21 kilometers\nwith a difference of 2,300 meters (including 1,300 above the sea level). Again,\nthe landscapes were splendid but <strong>big stones\nwere scattered<\/strong> <strong>all over the paths<\/strong>.\nWe had to pay constant attention and remain focus. We were exhausted.
