A hand such as &#x2660;K1083 <span style=\"color: #ff0101;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>AJ85 <strong><span style=\"color: #ff6f00;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span><\/strong>K75 <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>Q2 is suitable. This bid covers the <strong>13\u201315 HLD range<\/strong>, no more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 In the same strength range, but with a hand containing a <strong>shortness<\/strong> (singleton or void) in a minor, the responder has access to two <strong>splinters<\/strong> at the 4-level: <strong>4<span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> or 4<strong><span style=\"color: #ff6f00;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span><\/strong><\/strong>. It is important to stress that these bids do <strong>not<\/strong> show extra strength. &#x2660;A1084 <span style=\"color: #ff0101;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>KJ1073 <strong><span style=\"color: #ff6f00;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span><\/strong>K52 <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>2 is enough\u2014a hand that could produce a <strong>slam<\/strong> if opener holds a strong balanced hand without wasted values in clubs, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 From <strong>16 HLD points<\/strong>, the responder is too strong for a direct raise. They must first go through the <strong>fourth suit forcing<\/strong>, then support on the next round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the start of the sequence: <strong>1<span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> &#8211; 1<span style=\"color: #ff0101;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> &#8211; 1&#x2660; &#8211; 2<span style=\"color: #ff6f00;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> &#8211; 2<span style=\"color: #ff0101;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> or 2NT.<\/strong> West still has a choice between two <strong>spade support bids<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With an even stronger hand, West will use the <strong>forcing raise to 3&#x2660;<\/strong>. This is now a serious <strong>slam try<\/strong>, over which opener will show their <strong>first control<\/strong> if their hand is suitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4&#x2660;<\/strong> shows a hand too strong for an immediate sign-off in 4&#x2660; over 1&#x2660;, but not strong enough to seriously consider a <strong>slam opposite a minimum opener<\/strong>. The path is therefore clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The responder first bids the <strong>fourth suit at 2<strong><span style=\"color: #ff6f00;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span><\/strong><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over this fourth suit, opener will show <strong>three hearts<\/strong> as a priority. The <strong>5-3 fit<\/strong> is then uncovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If opener does not bid hearts, the responder can repeat them.
