2017 World Vice-Champion J\u00e9r\u00f4me Rombaut writes a column in the French magazine \u201c<\/strong>Le Bridgeur<\/strong><\/a>\u201d every two months.<\/strong>

As\nyou may know, it is possible to play federation tournaments on Funbridge and\nmore and more federations are licensing Funbridge to run online tournaments\n(for a fee) for their players. It is no surprise that the FFB (French Bridge\nFederation), our historical partner, attracts the most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is an interesting deal from one of these tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nobvious line is: Ace of Clubs, Ace of Spades (discard of a club), 9 of Diamonds\nthat you let run (to protect yourself against onside King-Queen-third) before\nfinishing with the double heart finesse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now\nthe imaginative approach: Ace of Clubs, Ace of Spades (discard of a club),\nruffed club and Jack of Diamonds!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • East takes with the bare King (first bonus<\/strong>). He can only return\nspades. You discard a heart in your hand\nand here you go.<\/strong><\/li>
  • West takes with the bare King (second bonus<\/strong>). He can only return\nspades. Dummy plays the Queen.<\/strong> There\nis a 50-50 chance that the King is in West.<\/li>
  • In all other cases, you can still try\nthe double finesse in Hearts, even when East holds all trumps.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Please note that theoretically bonuses won\u2019t work if the Queen of trumps is bare. Indeed, with the King-second, any defender can follow with the King and play trumps. Any\u2026 but certainly not anyone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
