{"id":12881,"date":"2020-03-24T10:37:42","date_gmt":"2020-03-24T08:37:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/?p=4367"},"modified":"2021-02-09T14:39:08","modified_gmt":"2021-02-09T12:39:08","slug":"the-fastest-and-most-effective-ways-to-build-a-winning-bridge-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/en\/the-fastest-and-most-effective-ways-to-build-a-winning-bridge-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"The fastest and most effective ways to build a winning bridge partnership."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Only by having a full understanding of your partner\u2019s approach to bidding and defence can you build <strong>a really successful partnership.<\/strong> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Compre\u0301hension-partenaire.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4414\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tune up your partnership bidding and defence using techniques <strong>only possible since the development of Funbridge.<\/strong>&nbsp; Forget declarer play for now as <strong>this is an individual activity you can practice by yourself.&nbsp;<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are <strong>three separate ideas<\/strong> to help your partnership, with only <strong>one requiring you to be face to face<\/strong> with your partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Practice routine 1:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This routine works best<strong> if your system is similar to one of the Funbridge<\/strong> \u2018off the shelf\u2019 systems or you have configured a \u2018Free profile\u2019 system close to your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You and your partner should sit together in front of a screen.&nbsp; <strong>Open \u2018Face the Elites\u2019<\/strong> in the Practice section and commence bidding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Discuss and agree (or disagree)<\/strong> each bid with your partner before you make it.&nbsp; This is where you learn how your partner thinks, and vice versa.&nbsp; This is fast, real time practice together. <strong>It provides opportunity for discussion<\/strong> as you go and <strong>quality benchmarks to compare your results.<\/strong>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the auction:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If you are declarer<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on <strong>Withdraw from the deal <\/strong>and compare your contract to that of around 70 Elite Funbridge players.&nbsp; <strong>Discuss the result with your partner <\/strong>then move on the next hand. &nbsp;Don\u2019t waste time on hand analysis.&nbsp; If most of the Elites are in the same contract, it is probably the right one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If you are defending<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Play the hand<\/strong> but, as you do, discuss and agree overall defence strategy and individual carding with your partner.&nbsp; <strong>Compare your result with the Elites.<\/strong>&nbsp; Funbridge puts most of the points north south so you will spend more time practicing bidding than defending.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is worth taking the time to play the defence cards to understand how <strong>you each see overall defence strategy<\/strong>&nbsp; and which cards you might play and signal with, but don\u2019t waste time on declarer play or hand analysis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Practice routine 2: <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This routine is great for focussing<\/strong> on areas of bidding where you may be weak. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You and your partner need to be logged in\nat the same time and have a voice\/phone link up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>From the bottom of home screen, select \u2018<strong>Friends<\/strong>\u2019<\/li><li>Select <strong>your partner.<\/strong><\/li><li>Select \u2018<strong>Practice with my friend<\/strong>\u2019 from the bottom right side of the screen<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Funbridge will show you an extensive menu of bidding sequences<\/strong> you might want to practice. For example, Responses to 1NT or 2NT.&nbsp; Select your preferred topic from the list and Funbridge will send an invitation to your partner (the invitation lapses after one minute).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your partner accepts your invitation, you can commence bidding <strong>using your own bidding system<\/strong>.&nbsp; Talk about problems as they arise rather than blundering through and discussing them at the end.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The objective is to agree\/improve your system and understand your partner\u2019s thoughts,<\/strong> not be judged on whether or you reached a makeable contract.&nbsp; Again, don\u2019t waste time on declarer play or detailed hand analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Practice routine 3:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Funbridge does not enable you to view another player\u2019s results unless you have played in the same tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To make best use of your Funbridge time, <strong>try to ensure you both play some of the same tournaments.<\/strong>&nbsp; The more often you do this the better. <strong>Two or three tournaments a week is recommended.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obvious tournament choices include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Tournaments of the day<\/strong> <strong>\u2013 <\/strong>20deals scored by matchpoints or IMPS depending on what you want to\npractice.<\/li><li><strong>Exclusive Tournaments \u2013 <\/strong>various numbers\nof deals (e.g. Funbridge: Milan Macura MP or IMP, 8 deals.&nbsp; Bridgevid- Pete Hollands, 8 deals).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Review and critique your partner\u2019s bidding.
