bid<\/strong>, made in a competitive auction where the player is not forced to bid, must be <strong>constructive<\/strong>. And it must not hide anything!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, after West\u2019s <strong>double<\/strong>, North is no longer obliged to complete the <strong>Texas transfer<\/strong>. North can therefore take the opportunity to show whether they hold a <strong>Heart fit<\/strong>, in case East bids <strong>3<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span><\/strong>. This allows South to decide whether to compete further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With <strong>Hand 2<\/strong>, the only one containing just <strong>two Hearts<\/strong>, North must pass, which denies a fit. With the other three hands, all supporting Hearts, North should bid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this situation, there are different ways to show <strong>Heart support<\/strong>. Everything depends on the choice of the <strong>declarer<\/strong>, and therefore on which hand will receive the opening lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the opponent\u2019s intervention, it is no longer obvious that the \u201cright hand\u201d to declare is opener\u2019s hand. If South holds, for example, the <strong>King-doubleton in Diamonds<\/strong>, it may be useful for South to declare in order to protect that holding from the opening lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>With <strong>Hands 3 and 4<\/strong>, North has both the <strong>fit<\/strong> and a <strong>Diamond stopper<\/strong>. There is therefore no reason for the contract to play better from South\u2019s side, so North should bid Hearts directly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At the <strong>2-level<\/strong> with <strong>Hand 4<\/strong>, which indeed contains four trumps but remains minimum.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the <strong>3-level<\/strong> with <strong>Hand 3<\/strong>, just as without interference, because with four trumps, <strong>17 HCP<\/strong>, and even a doubleton, the hand evaluates to <strong>20 support points<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hand 1<\/strong> is therefore the winning hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>North has the fit but no <strong>Diamond holding<\/strong>.
