The first round of trumps goes to the king and ace, and West continues with a second club. East wins with the cxA and returns the suit for West to ruff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is that West is now effectively endplayed. He cannot lead a spade into your tenace and playing the dxK would expose his partner\u2019s ace to a ruffing finesse. The best he can do is to play a low diamond. That in itself creates problems for him, but more of that later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winning with the dxA, East switches to the sx9 and the time has come for you to sit back and collate the information you have been given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You know from the bidding that West began with five spades and four diamonds, and he has already shown up two hearts and two clubs. So, he has no more trumps, which means that East still holds the guarded hxJ. West surely holds the dxK as well as sole control of spades, so it would seem that he can be squeezed in the end position. However, you will need to keep the sxA intact as a late entry to dummy in order for the squeeze to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s a conundrum. Dummy only appears to have one entry, the sxA. So, how can you pick up East\u2019s trumps and then later squeeze West?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then a light goes on in your head: you win with the spade switch in hand with your king. It makes no difference with which card you actually take a trick, so you lead the cxK and, although it is a winner, you ruff it with dummy\u2019s hx10. You are now in dummy to play a trump, and you take the marked finesse against East\u2019s jack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You draw East\u2019s remaining trump and then hammer the final nail into the West coffin by cashing your last heart winner. West, who now has to discard in front of dummy from sxQ-10 and dxK concedes.
