Your partner opened 1NT as North. Without any overcall, you would have asked, by using Stayman, whether he had four cards in ♠ and would have blindly ended up in 5♦. Here, East overcalled with 2♣ to show his major two-suiter and you therefore contented yourself with 5♦.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the same, when West bid 5♥ and North did not double (quite rightly, as the contract is cold!), it seems legitimate for you to bid on to 6♦.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You ruff the lead, play a trump to the dummy and then a ♠ to the Queen (East is obliged to follow with the 8 of ♠). ♣ to Dummy’s King and the last ♥ is ruffed in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You now just have to take a successful finesse against the Queen of ♣. Then, you discard a ♠ on the Ace of ♣ and another ♠ on the small ♣, won by West. He is forced to give you a ruff-and-discard, which will allow you to get rid of your last ♠.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
