<\/strong>missing the Jack and no indication on the hands of your opponents, the mathematically correct way of handling the suits consists in playing<strong> Ace-King-Queen<\/strong> from top (the <strong>\u201crule of 7\u201d<\/strong>, sculptured after the famous <strong>\u201crule of 9\u201d <\/strong>which recommends cashing <strong>Ace-King <\/strong>from the top with nine cards when the Queen is missing).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is it a good idea to cash your three Diamond honors?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No, because if East holds Jack fourth (or fifth), you then have to lose the lead and if West has four Clubs to the Ace <strong>you\u2019ll lose four Clubs in addition to the Diamond Jack,<\/strong> leading to your defeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is this pitfall avoidable?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, under the condition that you adapt your way of handling the suit to the present situation where <strong>four Diamond tricks are enough for you to make 3 No-Trump<\/strong>. What\u2019s important for you is to establish one trick without taking the risk of losing four Clubs along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can you achieve this?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Take the Spade lead in dummy, <strong>play the Diamond 10 and let it run.<\/strong> True, the suit will momentarily be blocked but no matter the position of the Jack, you\u2019ll have made <strong>100% sure that you\u2019ll make your contract<\/strong>, which is the main objective in a teams match.
