How many types are there? When should you lead the top of the sequence? What are the criteria for the lead of the King in No-Trumps? And above all, which approach should you adopt on the lead: count or attitude? The answers are explained in this article.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1-<\/strong> <strong>Choice of lead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A\/ No-Trumps<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1) The lead of an honour<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>a) Definition of a sequence of honours<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The lead of an honour other than the Ace (see below) promises a sequence of honours. If the suit chosen is a long suit of at least four cards, you need <strong>three honours or two honours accompanied by a high intermediate card<\/strong>, no more than one rank away, to have a sequence. <strong>QJ9 <\/strong>forms a sequence; only one intermediate card is missing, the 10. <strong>QJ8 <\/strong>does not form a sequence; two intermediate cards, the 10 and the 9, are missing. Under these conditions, there exist three types of sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-columns stk-block-columns stk-block stk-7bd43f5\" data-block-id=\"7bd43f5\"><div class=\"stk-row stk-inner-blocks stk-block-content stk-content-align stk-7bd43f5-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-column stk-block-column stk-block-column--v2 stk-column stk-block stk-95c73a4\" data-block-id=\"95c73a4\"><style>.stk-95c73a4{display:flex !important}.stk-95c73a4{align-items:center !important}<\/style><div class=\"stk-column-wrapper stk-block-column__content stk-container stk-95c73a4-container stk--no-background stk--no-padding\"><div class=\"stk-block-content stk-inner-blocks stk-95c73a4-inner-blocks\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>A complete sequence is headed by three touching honours:<\/strong> AKQ82, KQJ64, QJ10753, J1097. that is, the strongest of the honours that are following each other. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So, you will lead the Queen with Q<strong>J<\/strong>108, Q<strong>J<\/strong>962, A<strong>Q<\/strong>J87.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-867581f\" data-block-id=\"867581f\"><style>.stk-867581f{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>b) The lead of the Ace<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This only promises the King; it does not fall into <strong>the definition of a top-of-sequence lead against NT<\/strong>. The suit led tends to be three or four cards long; or, very exceptionally, five: in that case, the lead of a small card (see later) would be preferable. It is considered to be &#8220;<strong>a lead for one&#8217;s partner<\/strong>&#8220;. Under these conditions, it is logical for the signal on the lead of the Ace to be <strong>attitude<\/strong>: encouraging with the highest readable card, without giving away a trick; discouraging with the lowest card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lead the Ace with AK5 or AK75. Lead a small card, the 5, with AK754.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/illustration-1-1024x226.png\" alt=\"illustration 1\" class=\"wp-image-63006\" width=\"512\" height=\"113\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/illustration-2-1024x445.png\" alt=\"illustration 2\" class=\"wp-image-63007\" width=\"512\" height=\"223\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>West leads the <strong>Ace of Hearts<\/strong>; East encourages with the 10, more readable than the 4 and transmitting a clearer message than the Jack, which shows a sequence headed by Jack-10 and which might discourage West from continuing the suit. The Jack is the card to play with <strong>Jack-10-9-fourth. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-b77ec0d\" data-block-id=\"b77ec0d\"><style>.stk-b77ec0d{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>c) The lead of the King<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The lead of the King merits special treatment.<\/strong> It is not necessarily the top of a sequence. Leading the King promises a five-card suit headed by three honours, with the primary objective of establishing this suit, which, in order to be achieved, requires some specific signalling.
