Don’t be confused! <\/strong>After 4NT, Blackwood with clubs as trumps<\/strong>, 5♥ is asking about the trump Queen. This is not a conclusion. If South had chosen to play a ♥, he woud have bid 3♥ over 3♣.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

With eleven tricks off the top<\/strong>, you might imagine, for the twelfth, trying your luck in ♣ and ♥ one after the other by playing the Ace and King of ♣ followed by the finesse against the King of ♥ if the Queen has not fallen. But all these lovely ♣ deserve better and there is a line of play with a higher-than-90% success rate<\/strong>. The idea is to accept that you will give up the Queen of ♣<\/strong> on the first round of the suit so that you can, on the second round, overtake the King with the Ace<\/strong> and run the whole suit. On Trick Two, then, play the 5 of ♣ for the Jack<\/strong>. If the Queen appears, to your right or left, you make. Otherwise, cross back to hand with the King of ♣<\/strong> and return to the dummy to cash all the ♣.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But how? Look at the ♦ carefully<\/strong>: by playing low to the 7, you ensure an entry back to the dummy in the suit and your contract in one fell swoop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only layout which might still be able to set you <\/strong>is a 4-0 ♣ break, which only happens one time in ten\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
