We must add all hands that are strong enough to force to game, but where opener would like to play a better game contract at 3 No-trump. There are thus two types of hands that opener can hold and that deserve a trial bid:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-033d389\" data-block-id=\"033d389\"><style>.stk-033d389{height:10px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>a) Unbalanced distribution, most often 5-4-3-1, in the 14-16HCP range. Me too and for a long time. <strong>Big mistake!<\/strong> Describing opener\u2019s two-suiter and suggesting an unbalanced distribution, thus a singleton in one of the other two suits, gives a lot of information to the defense even before the lead &#8211; and that without noticeably helping responder, whose only duty it is to bid game with a maximum hand and to refuse it with a minimum. The location of the honors plays only a random role. Over 2NT, you bid game because you have a maximum, without asking yourself any other question, and therefore with all four hands above. But that\u2019s not all. <strong>The confidentiality of the 2NT bid<\/strong>, which may lead either to playing a tight game when responder has a maximum, or to playing at the three-level, on the tightrope, when responder has a minimum,<strong> doubles your chances of success.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-9173bd2\"
