In the majority of sequences, the continuations are almost identical over a 1<span style=\"color: #e52f1d;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> or 1&#x2660; opening. The differences are pointed out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1- Showing support naturally<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">a) At the 2-level: constructive<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Deal-1-2-1024x172.png\" alt=\"Deal 1\" class=\"wp-image-66271\" width=\"512\" height=\"86\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Three-card support with 8-10 total points (including distribution: henceforth &#8220;points&#8221;), or four-card support with 6-8 points. Examples: <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Over a 2<span style=\"color: #077794;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> or 2<span style=\"color: #ff9e10;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> rebid, a 2<span style=\"color: #e52f1d;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> preference bid discourages an opener with 14-15 HCP and 5-4-3-1 distribution from making a game try. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-9d8d071\" data-block-id=\"9d8d071\"><style>.stk-9d8d071{height:10px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>b) At the 3-level: mixed raise<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Deal-7-1-1024x172.png\" alt=\"Deal 7\" class=\"wp-image-66278\" width=\"512\" height=\"86\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>8-10 points with four trumps. <br>This is no longer a way of showing encouraging support with 11-12 points and four trumps; it is not a pre-empt (an opportunity to rid yourself of this bad habit!); it is a good 2&#x2660; bid with four trumps, in the 8-10-point range. It is no longer possible to jump to 3<span style=\"color: #e52f1d;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> over a 1<span style=\"color: #e52f1d;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> opening with four trumps and 11-12 points. Some hands look like a splinter but with four trumps. They merit a game force, either because they exceed 12 points or because the quality of the honours is ideal. Examples: <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Deal-18-1-1024x375.png\" alt=\"Deal 18\" class=\"wp-image-66289\" width=\"512\" height=\"188\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Come rain or shine, you want to play in game. Yet you have 14 points rather than 11, 11 HCP as opposed to 8. In the meantime, Opener will have needlessly revealed his distribution and the defence will be easier. You&#8217;ve got it: the solution is to respond 2NT with both of the above hands, later moving on to 4&#x2660;, bidding game over 3&#x2660; or 3NT or agreeing to look for slam over the strong rebids of 3<span style=\"color: #077794;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> or 3<span style=\"color: #ff9e10;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>With a balanced hand of 11-12 HCP: therefore, the hands with which you, like me, used to respond 3NT (see below). It promises between 7 and 10 HCP, never 11 HCP (the top end of the range for a jump to game). It guarantees five trumps (like a jump to 4<span style=\"color: #e52f1d;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> or 4&#x2660;) without exception. Count, on average, two useful honours: at least two kings, at most two aces; but exercise judgement.
