It does not exclude a five-card major: rarely with 19 HCP and never with 21 HCP. 5-4-2-2 distribution is acceptable, as is a stiff honour in a minor, especially within the framework of a 4-4-4-1 three-suiter. \u2794 sign-off: six hearts and four spades, six spades and four hearts. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4NT \u2794 quantitative.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After Smolen, Opener supports his partner with three cards in his five-card major. Over 3<span style=\"color: #e52f1d;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>, he corrects to 3&#x2660;; Responder will have plenty of space to describe his hand. But over 3&#x2660;, he should consider adjusting his raises when he has three cards in Hearts. Opener passes if he is minimum or responds to Blackwood otherwise. He judges the quality of his trumps and his honours (proportion of aces and kings). Once again, we forget about controls. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Deal-17-2-1024x348.png\" alt=\"Deal 17\" class=\"wp-image-67872\" width=\"512\" height=\"174\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Deal-18-3-1024x377.png\" alt=\"Deal 18\" class=\"wp-image-67873\" width=\"512\" height=\"189\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>You have probably never encountered these Blackwood bids made in an unusual place. The responses are the same (30-41 for me) but moved down: <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Deal-19-1-1024x309.png\" alt=\"Deal 19\" class=\"wp-image-67874\" width=\"512\" height=\"155\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>4&#x2660; \u2794 3 or 0.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4NT \u2794 4 or 1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5&#x2663; \u2794 2 without the Queen of Trumps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5<span style=\"color: #ff9e10;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> \u2794 2 with the Queen of Trumps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The tricky bid, here 4NT over 4&#x2660;, is still the question of the Queen of Trumps (Opener does not exactly answer the question, since grand slam is out of the question; he would have responded 5<span style=\"color: #e52f1d;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> without the Queen of Trumps). The auction above, in other sequences where a grand slam might be conceivable, is asking for kings. This chapter is reserved for players who are interested in very high-level competitions. If you find this too difficult, which I understand, I suggest a simpler way of going about things with a hand in-between game and slam: <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Deal-20-1-1024x309.png\" alt=\"Deal 20\" class=\"wp-image-67875\" width=\"512\" height=\"155\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>5<span style=\"color: #e52f1d;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> \u2794 strong invitation; Opener passes if he is minimum and bids 6<span style=\"color: #e52f1d;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> otherwise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>IV- Continuations after a Transfer<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some advice to follow: <strong>play all corrections as fit-showing<\/strong>; forget the marginal case where it is necessary not only to stop below game but also when a 3-Heart (or 3-Spade) contract will be better than a 2NT one, as the opposite will often be the case.
