Born in Antibes, Roger does not lose the north when it comes to looking after his town, which he calls the <strong>\u201cMecca of bridge players\u201d.<\/strong> Cleverly, he decided to impose some waiting time before announcing the results, aiming to incentivise the participants to visit the businesses in the area.<strong> The results are generally welcomed in a party-like atmosphere, <\/strong>presented as they are in the evening and over a cool cocktail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-2e626a6\" data-block-id=\"2e626a6\"><style>.stk-2e626a6{height:10px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-a64fbf5\" data-block-id=\"a64fbf5\"><style>.stk-a64fbf5{height:10px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The leading pairs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the opening of the festival, Ladies\u2019 and Gentlemen\u2019s tournaments were on offer.<strong> Marianne Linden and Ine Snepvangers<\/strong>, of the Netherlands, made their mark in the Ladies\u2019, whereas <strong>Bernard Cabanes and Erick Mauberquez <\/strong>dominated their category. Bernard knows the festival well; he has participated there several times and wanted to take his revenge on the previous year, where he did not manage to make it onto the podium. <strong>This seasoned resident of Montpellier, <\/strong>who represented France in the 2020 European Championships in Madeira, has played bridge since he was 18 years old and won three French Cups in his long career. His partner, <strong>Erick Mauberquez<\/strong>, lights up bridge lessons in Paris and also plays at <strong>the top level in France.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In the Mixed Pairs,<\/strong> the surprise came from <strong>Catherine Benoit and Christophe Cobetto,<\/strong> both members of t<strong>he Sainte-Maxime Bridge Club<\/strong>. Ranked as Series 1 Diamonds in the French ranking system, they were only seeded 34th. The shock duo lodged themselves into first place after an enormous second session (70%) and did not stop there. A third, equally insatiable (69%), allowed them to pull a long way ahead. Despite a lacklustre final session (only 50%), they were ahead of <strong>Ren\u00e9e Verdegaal-Mark Thiele<\/strong>, who came hurtling back like racing cars (almost a 70% average over the last two sessions!), and <strong>Wafa Haddad-Jerry Stamatov.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-columns stk-block-columns stk-block stk-680ea36\" data-block-id=\"680ea36\"><div class=\"stk-row stk-inner-blocks stk-block-content stk-content-align stk-680ea36-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-column stk-block-column stk-block-column--v3 stk-column stk-block-column--v2 stk-block stk-10be4a2\" data-block-id=\"10be4a2\"><style>.stk-10be4a2-inner-blocks{justify-content:center !important}.stk-10be4a2-container{display:flex !important;flex-direction:column !important}<\/style><div class=\"stk-column-wrapper stk-block-column__content stk-container stk-10be4a2-container stk--no-background stk--no-padding\"><div class=\"stk-block-content stk-inner-blocks stk-10be4a2-inner-blocks\">\n<p><strong>From the 15th May,<\/strong> it was time for the IMP Pairs. The \u201cbig guns\u201d are becoming more and more numerous. For the mere mortals, it is therefore a question of not getting crushed by these highly seeded players.<strong> \u00c9lisabeth Hugon, Philippe Cronier and Pierre Schmidt<\/strong> do not tend to give their opponents presents. In the end, it was <strong>Gert Jan Paulissen and Sam Bahbout<\/strong> who won the bet. An enormous 74% \u2013 and some dust \u2013 in the third session put them into orbit. Nor did he fail to celebrate the tireless <strong>Roger Damel\u00e9<\/strong> again and again. Our nonagenarian is, nevertheless, considering retiring next year.
