To do so, it was necessary to add a second Stayman to the classic one, which itself is slightly modified: <strong>Puppet Stayman.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-f6c0c57\" data-block-id=\"f6c0c57\"><style>.stk-f6c0c57{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1- Preambule<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The increase of 1NT openings with a five-card major and the search for confidentiality (avoiding unnecessarily describing opener\u2019s distribution) led to improving the response system facing 1NT openings with the introduction of double Stayman: t<strong>he usual Stayman of 2&#x2663; and a Puppet Stayman of 3&#x2663;.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Confidentiality<\/strong><br>The sequence:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/EN-1-4-1024x226.png\" alt=\"Deal 1\" class=\"wp-image-74407\" width=\"512\" height=\"113\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>It reveals four Hearts in the hand of the future declarer, solely at the advantage of the defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-4dd2835\" data-block-id=\"4dd2835\"><style>.stk-4dd2835{height:10px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Discovery of a 5-3 fit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-columns stk-block-columns stk-block stk-399b7de\" data-block-id=\"399b7de\"><div class=\"stk-row stk-inner-blocks stk-block-content stk-content-align stk-399b7de-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-column stk-block-column stk-column stk-block stk-0f55659\" data-v=\"4\" data-block-id=\"0f55659\"><div class=\"stk-column-wrapper stk-block-column__content stk-container stk-0f55659-container stk--no-background stk--no-padding\"><div class=\"stk-block-content stk-inner-blocks stk-0f55659-inner-blocks\">\n<p>You all, like me, have responded 3NT over 1NT with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#x2660; K105<br>&#x2665; K105<br>&#x2666; AJ984<br>&#x2663; 83<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-column stk-block-column stk-column stk-block stk-977dfda\" data-v=\"4\" data-block-id=\"977dfda\"><div class=\"stk-column-wrapper stk-block-column__content stk-container stk-977dfda-container stk--no-background stk--no-padding\"><div class=\"stk-block-content stk-inner-blocks stk-977dfda-inner-blocks\">\n<p>\u2026 not a success opposite:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#x2660; QJ984<br>&#x2665; AQ3<br>&#x2666; KQ5<br>&#x2663; Q9<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The 1NT opening meets all the criteria that you remember from your courses (never 17HCP, no small doubleton, rather three cards in the other major); the 3NT response is obvious, there is no culprit, and the board will probably be a tie when it comes to scoring\u2026 <strong>unless your opponents play Puppet Stayman.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-d528349\" data-block-id=\"d528349\"><style>.stk-d528349{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2- Puppet Stayman<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A. Definition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The response of 3&#x2663; to the 1NT opening is <strong>a particular Stayman:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Looking for five-card majors in opener\u2019s hand, but it also allows you to find a 4-4 fit without revealing, in case of failure, opener\u2019s four-card major.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Game-forcing. 9<sup>+<\/sup>HCP without upper limit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Balanced distribution, zero or one four-card major.
