If trumps don\u2019t split 4-0 (which will fortunately be the case nine times out of ten), you can count eleven tricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where can you establish number twelve?<\/strong><br>You have multiple chances of making: if trumps break 2-2, you can draw them in two rounds and then easily ruff your third Diamond or your fourth Club (a so-called \u201cinvisible\u201d ruff), not to mention that Clubs can be 3-3. Yes, but what if neither of the black suits breaks favourably?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can you still bring your contract home safely?<\/strong><br>Yes, certainly. Following \u201cit\u2019s possible to set up any five-card suit\u201d, establishing a Heart by ways of ruffing offers excel\u0002lent chances of success, and this all the more so thanks to your multiple dummy entries (Ace-King-Queen of Spades and Ace-King-Queen of Clubs). It is in your interest to start by testing this option, proceeding carefully in the trump suit in order to preserve your dummy entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Go for it<\/strong><br>Unblock the King of Hearts then cross to dummy with a trump, allowing you to confirm that the suit is not 4-0. Ruff a small Heart without cashing the Ace: the Queen falls from West. Now play a second trump to the King: West discards a Diamond. Spades are 3-1 but, at least, you don\u2019t have to worry about being overruffed. Call for another small Heart from dummy and ruff it. West discards again: Hearts were 5-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do you have to hope for a 3-3 break in Clubs?<\/strong><br>No, not at all. All you need to do is ruff the ten of hearts all while taking good care of your communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But what else?<\/strong><br>Cross back to dummy with a club, cash the Ace of Hearts and ruff the 10 of Hearts. Finally, play a Club to the Ace, draw East\u2019s Jack of Spades and claim twelve winners with three Spades, three Clubs, two Hearts, three Heart ruffs and a Diamond ruff.
