I hope to see you return in even greater numbers in January. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-576680e\" data-block-id=\"576680e\"><style>.stk-576680e{height:30px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Congratulations to the top 6:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Classement-6.png\" alt=\"Classement\" class=\"wp-image-83295\" style=\"width:500px;height:undefinedpx\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>I myself <strong>scored 66%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is my analysis of a few deals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>First deal: Going after a top<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Donne-1-PF-Decembre-709x1024.png\" alt=\"Donne 1\" class=\"wp-image-83296\" style=\"width:408px;height:503px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-539c5c0\" data-block-id=\"539c5c0\"><style>.stk-539c5c0{height:10px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I played in 4&#x2665;, as did everyone. On this deal, we will almost always make ten tricks, losing a &#x2666; and two &#x2663;. This deal is therefore not that interesting. And yet&#8230; There are two minuscule chances of making an eleventh trick without getting into danger. A stiff or doubleton &#x2660;K (extremely unlikely):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 You win with the &#x2666;A.<br>\u2013 You cash the &#x2660;A.<br>\u2013 You cross to the &#x2665;J.<br>\u2013 You ruff a &#x2660;.<br>\u2013 If the &#x2660;K falls, you cross to the &#x2665;Q to discard a losing &#x2663;.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I chose a different option. Knowing that the opening leader did not hold the &#x2663;AK (or he would have led a &#x2663;), it would be difficult for him to play a &#x2663;. denied major length of at least 4 cards. 3&#x2660; is &#8220;Smolen&#8221;, showing a two-suiter with 5&#x2665;+4&#x2660;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4&#x2663; is a control-showing cue bid implying a &#x2665; fit. North has an unusual hand: if his partner has a singleton &#x2666;, slam could be excellent opposite &#x2660;Jxxx &#x2665;AK10xx &#x2666;x &#x2663;Qxx. <strong>If his partner has a singleton &#x2663;, slam will seldom be good.<\/strong> The problem is that cue bids do not differentiate between an honour and a shortage. Over a 4&#x2666; cue, North will not know how to react.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My personal opinion is that the standard way of showing controls is ineffective; there are surely better things you can do&#8230; Over 4&#x2663;, I have a problem: I might have an excellent slam opposite &#x2660;Ax &#x2665;AQx &#x2666;KQ10xx &#x2663;Axx or a terrible one like on this deal. I chose the pessimistic option by signing off in 4&#x2665;. When the dummy came down, the lead of the &#x2666;5 pushes out East&#8217;s Queen. Should you finesse against the &#x2663;Q in order to discard your two losing &#x2666;? That is dangerous; it resembles a coin toss that might win me a lot or cost me dearly. I opted for caution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysing the first trick told me that the &#x2666;10 was with the opening leader, as with &#x2666;Q10, East would have put in the &#x2666;10. The opening leader could have &#x2666;1065, &#x2666;10652, &#x2666;K105 or even &#x2666;K1052. Should I cash the &#x2663;AK to discard a &#x2666; loser? Yes, to enable me to overruff if a &#x2666; ruff threatened. But no if the trumps were breaking badly as there would be a risk of getting forced. I excluded Argine underleading &#x2666;K10xx, so there was no risk of a ruff from my point of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was wrong; on lead with the &#x2665;A, West cashed the &#x2666;K and the &#x2666; ruff reduced me to just 10 tricks. A relief that 4&#x2665;= fetched 68%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many went down in slam and, due to the bad break in the majors, it was very difficult to make 11 tricks. The lead of the &#x2666;6 went to East&#8217;s King. I had 7 sure top tricks (3&#x2660; + 2&#x2665; + 2&#x2666;). The missing tricks would come from the &#x2660; and\/or the &#x2663;. If the &#x2660; were 3-3, there was no rush. I still had stops in all the suits and could deal with them later. If the &#x2660; were 4-2, I would need to establish the &#x2663;. I should always try the &#x2663; first. One problem: I only had 2 stops in the led suit, &#x2666;, and the defence held two entries in &#x2663; (&#x2663;A and &#x2663;K). The defence were threatening to win the race to set up their suit. Should I duck the &#x2666;K? A &#x2665; switch didn&#8217;t frighten me as the &#x2665;10 and &#x2665;9 would probably give me a third &#x2665; stop. Losing a trick by ducking the &#x2666; was not impossible but was unlikely (if East held both the &#x2663;A and &#x2663;K). The probability of gaining a trick by ducking was higher (if the &#x2663; were split). The diagram renders those who did duck correct. On lead with the &#x2663;K, East can no longer play a &#x2666; and the defence can no longer establish their length. You have time to establish the &#x2663;. In the end, you give up a trick in &#x2666; and two tricks in &#x2663; for 3NT+1 and 82%. Those who did not duck the &#x2666; would often be held to 9 tricks, forced to fall back on the &#x2660;, which allowed them to make 9 tricks, thanks to the 3-3 break, for 54%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:0px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-af5c9bc\" data-block-id=\"af5c9bc\"><style>.stk-af5c9bc{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What did you think of this article ?
