You should not stop there. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 2&#x2663;, you commit to your opening and repeat your six-card &#x2666; suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 4&#x2660; contract is good. We will normally lose a &#x2660;, a &#x2663; and the &#x2666;A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#x2666;A lead without the King is surely a singleton; otherwise, the defence would have led a &#x2663;. After the &#x2666;A, the opening leader switches to the &#x2663;K. You must resist the temptation to take it. You need to prevent your right-hand opponent from gaining the lead in &#x2663; in order to give a &#x2666; ruff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you take the &#x2663;K with the &#x2663;A, RHO signals by throwing the &#x2663;J. Then, after the &#x2660;K, the opening leader switches to a small &#x2663;. He gives his partner the lead, who then gives a &#x2666; ruff for one down. The defence could have defeated you by playing a small &#x2663; away from the &#x2663;KQ on Trick Two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you were declaring 4&#x2660; and ducked the &#x2663;K, <strong>you score <\/strong><strong>4&#x2660;= for 77%.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-c4dcb09\" data-block-id=\"c4dcb09\"><style>.stk-c4dcb09{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deal 2: It was a green light<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Capture-domi-donne-2-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-86621\" style=\"width:337px;height:531px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-e11384a\" data-block-id=\"e11384a\"><style>.stk-e11384a{height:10px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of you passed over 1NT and I understand that. Game seems out of the picture when your partner passed initially. &#x2665;KJ in a doubleton is a negative. You have neither aces, nor intermediates, nor a singleton. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This two-suited hand should be devalued. I did, however, bid 2&#x2660;, for the following reason: the vulnerability being green-against-green (&#8220;white&#8221;) is ideal for a 2&#x2660; overcall. If I go down in 2&#x2660;, that will often cost less than letting them make 1NT. And if I make 2&#x2660;, that will give me more than taking 1NT down. Red-against-red (&#8220;amber&#8221;), it is the opposite: it is better value to defend. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I received the &#x2663;J lead, which held. This likely placed the &#x2663;AK with the 1NT opener. West switched to a &#x2660; to my &#x2660;J.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defenders&#8217; trumps would thwart a plan to ruff a &#x2666; in the short hand. I fell back on playing to establish the &#x2665; length by playing the &#x2665;K, which held. I continued in &#x2665;; East&#8217;s &#x2665;A appeared. The &#x2665; seemed to be breaking well. East cashed the &#x2666;A and &#x2666;9. East had shown up with the &#x2666;A, &#x2663;AK and the &#x2665;A: 15 HCP. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#x2660;A was therefore with West. I had to play a small &#x2660; towards the dummy. On lead with the &#x2660;A, West was done for. If he played a &#x2666;, I could ruff my loser. And if he played something else, I could cross to the &#x2660;Q to take the last trump and run the &#x2665;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-4e135d2\" data-block-id=\"4e135d2\"><style>.stk-4e135d2{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deal 3: The exception<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/capture-domi-donne-3-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-86623\" style=\"width:337px;height:531px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>On this deal, Argine advised opening 1NT with 16 HCP and 2245 distribution. It was right: all 16-HCP 5422 hands without a 5-card major should open 1NT. If we were to end up in NT, I did not wish to receive a major-suit lead. Over 2&#x2660;, some of you passed: that is an error. Reverses promise another bid: you have to bid at least one more time if your partner has not signed off in game. The 3NT contract is not very good. But you have to try to make it. You win the &#x2665; lead to the &#x2665;J with the &#x2665;K (it is too dangerous to duck).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You run the &#x2663;, starting by taking the &#x2663;J (honour from the short side to avoid a blockage). You try the &#x2660; finesse, praying for that to work and for the &#x2665; to break 4-4. <strong>It&#8217;s chancy but it works. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3NT= brings in 81%.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:0px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-af5c9bc\" data-block-id=\"af5c9bc\"><style>.stk-af5c9bc{height:40px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What did you think of this article?
