My options are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Double as take-out, which shows a raise in a suit other than Diamonds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 Spade overcall, showing 5+ spades and 8-17 points.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Before proceeding, please consider what your choice would be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I decided to bid 1 Spade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip: With a 5-card suit, try to avoid the double. There is a big risk of missing a 5-3 fit.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Donne-2-five-cards-is-king.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-87286\" style=\"width:500px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Now, it is decision time once more. My options are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pass<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bid 3 Hearts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bid 3 Spades<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I chose to bid 3 Spades. My hand is too good to pass. Additionally, my partner is unaware of my singleton in Diamonds. There is no necessity to bid 3 Hearts, that would imply a hand with hopes of playing the game. Instead, 3 Spades serves as a competitive bid to obstruct opponents from playing the hand.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/donne-3-Five-cards-is-king.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-87287\" style=\"width:500px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>West led a diamond, which East overtook with the 9 to return the Jack of Clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I decided to take the Ace, draw trumps and finesse the hearts. This strategy led to 9 tricks and successfully fulfilled the contract. If I had ducked the club, I would have risked a club ruff from East.
