I recognise that a 1<span style=\"color: #053fed;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2660;<\/span> opening could be good but I have decided, to simplify things, to open 1NT with all 5332 hands of 15-16 HCP. I really felt that the game ought to be played from his side! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My strategy would be rewarded beyond my expectations. With the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>AQ, East did not find the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> lead. The 10-card <span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> fit worked out very well. I needed to ruff a <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> to prepare an elimination play. I drew the trumps, finishing in the dummy. When my <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> finesse failed, West had to play a <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> back or give me a ruff-and-discard, which secured one down for me. A <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> switch by the robot on Trick Two would have taken it two down. But with my double fit and my small hope of game, I was not afraid of the 3-level.
