I chose to bid 2 Diamonds because if I passed, there is a risk that West might bid 2 or 3 Spades, leaving me out of the auction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The auction proceeds with West&#8217;s bid of 2 Spades, followed by your partner&#8217;s bid of 2NT. What would your next bid be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please think for yourself what you would have bid before reading on.<br>What are my options?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pass<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3NT<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Your partner&#8217;s 2NT bid should indicate additional strength, given that my bid of 2 Diamonds suggests a hand of 10 points or more. With the opportunity to act after a pass, North&#8217;s 2NT bid should signify a decent hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>After my bid of 3NT, all hands were passed out and we are now playing in 3NT.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Capture-decran-tom-drijver-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-89015\" style=\"width:500px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The additional strength isn&#8217;t quite what I had anticipated, but let&#8217;s take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s count the certain tricks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 spade trick<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 heart trick<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 club trick<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>0 diamond tricks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That totals 3 tricks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Potential tricks to develop:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 spade trick<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 diamond tricks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 club tricks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The diamond suit seems the most promising for development, especially with the combined total of 9 diamonds. Let&#8217;s assess the potential tricks when both the diamond and spade suits function as anticipated: 4 diamond tricks, 2 spade tricks, 1 club trick and 1 heart trick. However, we are still one trick short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or do you see any extra chance? Please think for yourself before reading on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In practice, you won the first trick with the Queen of Spades and played a diamond to the King, which was won by East with the Ace. East then returned a spade, allowing his partner to win with the Jack and revealing this situation:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Capture-decran-tom-drijver-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-89016\" style=\"width:500px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>West led a diamond, which East overtook with the 9 to return the Jack of Clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, I need 1 more trick to fulfill my contract. I decided to duck the spade and to win the next spade trick with the Ace. From the bidding, I know that East has 5 spades and West only has 3. Therefore, without spades, West is the safer hand. I played a club to the 10 and West played the King. West then returned a club since no spades were available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>That sums up to 10 tricks and a score of 90%.
