So that you understand correctly, it\u2019s not about taking crazy risks to get a good result (top or bottom), but about judging your initiatives accurately in all common situations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-60328a7\" data-block-id=\"60328a7\"><style>.stk-60328a7{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever you have the choice between two actions, you must opt for the one that will be worth a good score if it succeeds, while you still keep a score close to average if it doesn\u2019t. On the other hand, you sometimes must take all possible risks if an atypical action by your opponents suddenly puts you in danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-f8d323f\" data-block-id=\"f8d323f\"><style>.stk-f8d323f{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>As West, you pick up the following hand in a Club game:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The auction (Dealer South. He is an expert, with excellent judgment and the cunning of a fox. For a few years now, he has been playing only in club tournaments, where he gives free rein to his enjoyment of the game, with a very aggressive bidding style which sometimes earns him resounding zeros\u2026 which does not prevent him from often finishing in first place. Once again, this guy has struck, and you can be sure that this sequence will not be produced at other tables!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When faced with this type of situation, you need to take stock. Looking at your hand, it seems obvious that the 4 Hearts contract will be unanimously reached and should succeed without difficulty. The problem is that you can no longer play that contract because of the 4&#x2660; bid. What possibilities do you have?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bid on to 5&#x2665;.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Double<\/strong>, to punish this intrusion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pass\u2026 <\/strong>South\u2019s bid is a clear sacrifice. Your Pass would then be forcing and allow your partner to bid on, while leaving him the latitude to double. Unfortunately for you, South\u2019s initiative can only turn to his advantage. He will certainly find some trump support opposite and North-South certainly has a double fit in the black suits just like your side has one in the red suits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>He will go down, but how many? By one or two tricks, maybe three\u2026 Even in the best case, given the respective vulnerabilities, a score of 500 instead of at least 620 would earn you a zero! You therefore have no option but to<strong> bid on to 5&#x2665;, <\/strong>while being aware that your partner won\u2019t always have the cards that allow you to make. But even if going down condemns you to the same zero, your decision to bid and play 5 Hearts still leaves you the possibility of getting back to the par score, that is to say a decent score if you manage to make your contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-462b380\" data-block-id=\"462b380\"><style>.stk-462b380{height:20px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>The full deal<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Diagrame-plantation-EN-1024x971.png\" alt=\"Diagram\" class=\"wp-image-89790\" style=\"object-fit:cover;width:500px;height:500px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Here, your initiative will be rewarded, because 5 Hearts makes. In 4 Spades doubled, South could get away with only one down, by guessing the distribution of the Club honors correctly.
