I hope to see even more of you in August. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-4772fda\" data-block-id=\"4772fda\"><style>.stk-4772fda{height:40px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Congratulations to the top 6:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"958\" height=\"445\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-261.png\" alt=\"L\u2019attribut alt de cette image est vide, son nom de fichier est image-254.png.\" class=\"wp-image-96313\" style=\"width:auto;height:300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-261.png 958w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-261-300x139.png 300w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-261-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 958px) 100vw, 958px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>I myself scored 77%.<\/strong> Not many of you beat me to win <strong>25 Diamonds &#x2666;&#xfe0f;!<\/strong> Below is my analysis of a few deals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-e1382a8\" data-block-id=\"e1382a8\"><style>.stk-e1382a8{height:30px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000fc;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">First deal: <\/span>The ideal partner<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"413\" height=\"566\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-255.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-95709\" style=\"width:auto;height:600px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-255.png 413w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-255-219x300.png 219w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 413px) 100vw, 413px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Your opponents bid 6<span style=\"color: #053fed;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2660;<\/span> and you have an awkward lead. You can rule out leading a black suit. A trump could be disastrous if your partner holds honour-third or doubleton King and you have to protect your <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>K. A choice remains between the red suits. We do not like to lead away from an honour. Your partner surely has a weak hand; you risk giving away a &#8220;free finesse&#8221; to your opponents right at the start. Which is the better lead? From <span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>J976 or from <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>Q10653? It is not very clear but I would bet on <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the table, I would choose a surprising and very dangerous lead of the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>4 for several reasons: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dummy had shown length in <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> and 2 aces. The <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>A would often be in the dummy. I was short in <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>, so could potentially have a singleton. Declarer would not dare to take an immediate finesse against the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>K. Because leading away from a king into Dummy&#8217;s length is extremely rare, he will believe the lead is a singleton and willl rise with the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>A to avoid a ruff. That will establish my King. A sort of <strong>&#8220;psyche on the lead&#8221;<\/strong>!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We were in a pairs tournament; saving my <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>K and holding the contract to = instead of +1 could be sufficient for scoring a top. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The other leads were not desirable either. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I would not have chosen this lead at a real table for the following reasons: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Leading the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>4 is extremely &#8220;swingy&#8221;: it will often lead to a top or a bottom. If it is a bottom, there is a risk of your partner blaming you. He might think you are looking for a flashy play to your partnership result&#8217;s detriment. And if your partner gets annoyed, that will have a negative impact on the rest of your game. Argine neither gets annoyed nor tells you off: you can go for it! <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Declarer is a robot; he is ill at ease with anything psychological. An experienced human might imagine that you were leading away from the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>K in this sequence but for the robot, it is more difficult. On this deal, the robot will get its ideas tangled and go down in a game that seems simple to make. The lead disturbed him. I scored the 94% top!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-0cfc3ae\" data-block-id=\"0cfc3ae\"><style>.stk-0cfc3ae{height:30px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000fc;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">Second deal: <\/span>Bad break<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"472\" height=\"688\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-256.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-95754\" style=\"width:auto;height:600px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-256.png 472w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-256-206x300.png 206w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 472px) 100vw, 472px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>On this deal, lots of different contracts were bid. Several options were possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With 10 HCP and a 6-4 two-suiter, green against red, you could open 1<span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>. I did not choose that option as I do not like opening light in pairs tournaments, which too often leads me into a dubious game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My partner bid 2<span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> naturally and I was happy to bid a natural new suit with 2<span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>. I did not look at the meaning of this bid, which seemed forcing to me, and I showed a fit with 3<span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>. Those who looked at the meaning of 2<span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> were misled and were able to pass. Argine finished up with 4<span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> and the dummy came down.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"455\" height=\"765\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-257.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-95755\" style=\"width:auto;height:600px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-257.png 455w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-257-178x300.png 178w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Declarer&#8217;s hand was lovely and 4<span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> was an excellent contract. If the suits broke normally, we would draw trumps, run the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>, discarding the <span style=\"color: #053fed;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2660;<\/span>, and would easily make 11 tricks. But the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> lead was worrying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Declarer had shown a 6-card <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> suit; the opening leader would have no reason to lead a <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> unless it was a singleton. And if he was singleton in <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>, that would increase the likelihood that he held 4 cards in <span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>. The fewer <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> one has, the more <span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> one has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I cashed the <span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>K to keep my <span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>A10 tenace in the dummy. The <span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>J fell from opener, surely stiff. I had to not draw the trumps, risking going down if the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> were breaking 5-1. I played a master <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> club, ruffed and overruffed. I had to abandon the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> and establish the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>. I pushed out the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>K. The defence ran through me in <span style=\"color: #053fed;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2660;<\/span> and cashed the <span style=\"color: #053fed;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2660;<\/span>AQ, which I ruffed. I pushed out the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>A. Opener gave me an overruff in <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>. I ruffed high, drew trumps and ran the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> for 10 tricks. 4<span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>= brought in 97%!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-7200aff\" data-block-id=\"7200aff\"><style>.stk-7200aff{height:30px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000fc;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">Third deal: <\/span>Take all the opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"514\" height=\"761\" src=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-258.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-95758\" style=\"width:auto;height:600px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-258.png 514w, https:\/\/funbridge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-258-203x300.png 203w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 514px) 100vw, 514px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Declarer&#8217;s 15 HCP were very ugly. A bad 4333 distribution, no intermediate cards, honours scattered across the suits, vulnerable; in a pairs tournament, one might downgrade and open 1<span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>. But I never miss an opportunity to open 1NT, which is the best opening bid. The rest was a classic: Stayman response and then conclusion in 3NT. Argine suggested bidding one&#8217;s <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> length over 3<span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>; I do not endorse that advice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I received the lead of the <span style=\"color: #053fed;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2660;<\/span>J. There was a main suit in <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> to be worked on first. A secondary suit in <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> to be used if we could. A delicate and blocked suit in <span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I won the <span style=\"color: #053fed;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2660;<\/span> lead to start working on the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>. Two ways of playing were possible and almost the same. Small <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> from the dummy up to the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>J or A<span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>, then a <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> towards the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span>J. I chose the second. The <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> finesse worked but the <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> broke badly, 4-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I now had 9 sure tricks (3<span style=\"color: #053fed;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2660;<\/span> + 2<span style=\"color: #ee0707;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2665;<\/span> + 3<span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> + 1<span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>). I could easily look for the 10th by establishing the 5th <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> in the dummy. But I would have to take all the opportunities; if the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> were lying favourably, I could make 11 tricks all while ensuring 10. I cashed a third round of <span style=\"color: var(--paletteColor1, #00A336);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2663;<\/span> and played a <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span> towards the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>A10; one never knows&#8230; <strong>Bingo! <\/strong>The opening leader was forced to split with <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>KQ, I won with the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>A then forced out the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>K by playing the <span style=\"color: #e6790c;\" class=\"stk-highlight\">&#x2666;<\/span>10.
