Once your three tricks are cashed, at trick twelve you\u2019ll have to play a Spade from your King. To avoid this fatal outcome, coolly discard two Spades, keeping only the stiff King. Admittedly, South will know that you only have one Spade left (he knows how to count to thirteen&#8230;), but he cannot guess that it is the King.
