Deal 1: North – South Vulnerable, IMP scoring
Scoring:
4♣: 100
4♦: 80
5♣: 40
4♣. Here, 5♣ would obviously be insufficient. Fortunately, my partner and I have agreed that 4♣ is forcing.
The reason is that the 4♦ cue-bid already shows at least a 5-5 two-suiter in the majors, leaving us with no convenient way to express a strong club raise.
The only downside is that we can no longer play exactly 4♣, but that is a very small price to pay.
4♣. My partner, Brad Moss, and I play that a raise of partner’s minor to the four level is game forcing. That makes 4♣ the clear bid here.
Partner can bid 4NT to play there, or 4♦, which would be Roman Key Card Blackwood. All other bids would be cue bids.
