Mike Vandervorst dominates the first Major 500 of the Bridge Points Circuit

Mike Vandervorst écrase le Major 500 et fait un bond au classement

Mike Vandervorst crushed the competition in the inaugural Major 500 tournament of the Bridge Points Circuit. With an impressive score of 77.29%, he soared above the rest, leaving his rivals far behind. Among the top performers, our ambassador Dominique Fonteneau shone brightly, securing second place with 73.82%, closely followed by another Belgian player, Steven De Donder, who rounded out a very black-yellow-red 🇧🇪 podium.

A Spectacular Leap in the Live Rankings

This Major 500 was the first BP500 tournament of the year on the Circuit, meaning it awarded 5 times more points than a standard tournament. Mike Vandervorst took full advantage of this, collecting 739 points for his victory. This impressive haul propelled him up the Live rankings, gaining a staggering 445 places, making a sensational entry into the world top 100.

The Heat is On Behind the Top 3

The intensity of the Major 500 did not immediately disrupt the Live ranking podium. Roelof van Lopik (see our interview), Michael Staub, and Eric Zerbib maintained their top three positions. However, many players who excelled in this tournament are now putting significant pressure on the leading trio. In fact, it took just three more days for Dominique Fonteneau to climb to third place, thanks to solid performances in classic and express tournaments.

Among the challengers to watch, FatOrange stands out as a potential disruptor to the podium. Known for breaking records, he was the first to surpass the symbolic milestone of 2 million Funbridge Points (the former name of Bridge Points) and currently holds 6th place.

Next Up: The Bridge Cup!

While it’s almost certain that Roelof van Lopik will win the November 2024 monthly ranking, the battle to complete the podium promises to be fierce. As for the Live ranking, we are just getting started: with only 15 days of competition counted so far out of the 365-day rolling period, many twists and turns are expected.

All eyes are now on the next big event: the Bridge Cup, an knockout BP500 tournament with registrations already open (click here to register). The knockout format always brings a unique thrill, and the prospect of significant leaps in the rankings will only raise the stakes. Mark your calendars for November 18th—it’s going to be epic!
