To open or not to open?
What is the necessary minimum to open in first or second seat? (*) we usually say that you must open with 12 HCP or 13 points including re-evaluation for length. The current trend is to adopt a slightly more aggressive policy, especially with unbalanced hands.
(*) Openings in third or fourth position are subject to specific conditions which will be presented in another article.
Experience shows that occupying bid- ding space early, even at the one-level, increases the chances of finding the best contract for your side and hinders your opponents considerably. This is well worth taking some risks!
